“25 Things To Do When Grandpa Passes Away, Mom and Dad Get Divorced, or the Dog Dies”
This month I read a little book with a long title called “25 Things To Do When Grandpa Passes Away, Mom and Dad Get Divorced, or the Dog Dies – Activities to Help Children Suffering Loss or Change” by Laurie A. Kanyer, MA. What I liked about this book is that it gives simple yet accurate explanations of how children experience grief and loss. The majority of the book is dedicated to the actual activities that can be tremendously therapeutic for children, but can be used by anyone. The author includes things like soothing repetitive activities, person to person connections and creating ceremonies or memorials to process grief. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who has a child in their life who has suffered a significant loss. It can be found easily online or also at the Sonoma County Library.
