iPods May Be Helping Aspergers Kids Navigate Life

Technology Helping Kids

Technology Helping Kids

This week I have chosen to highlight an article that shares a positive message about how technology is helping children. Approximately one in every 150 children in the United States has autism or a closely related disorder. Children with aspergers, which is a mild form of autism, have difficulty with communication and social interaction, among other things. This article talks about how a few programs are using iPods to help these children learn the social skills that they lack. My favorite quote in this article comes at the end. Jim Ball, an adviser to the Autism Society of America says, “I think that technology is limitless in its potential for working with kids.” I appreciate the optimism in this quote and the notion that technology can have a beneficial and positive impact on youth who are facing serious challenges.
