How do I know if my teenager needs counseling?

There are many signs to look for that indicate your teenager needs counseling. It may be hard to figure out if this is just a difficult phase for him or if he needs professional help. Consider your answers to the following questions.

  • Is your teenager suffering?
  • What are your major concerns for your teenager?
  • Are you struggling as a parent to help your teenager?
  • Has nothing worked to improve the situation?

We can talk about your concerns in more detail in order for you to make the best decision. Give me a call at (707) 520-4357 if you have further questions.

What kind of services do you offer?

The services I offer include the following:

  • Individual therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Parent Coaching

How much will counseling cost?

For counseling to be effective it does require a commitment of both time and finances. An important question to ask is whether or not you can afford to delay getting your teenager the help he needs. I can help to make this possible in a couple of ways.

We can explore using your insurance to offset the cost of therapy. There may be other sources of funding, through the county or the state, depending on your situation. I also take credit or debit card payments if that makes it easier for you to pay for the counseling.

If you think that you may not be able to afford counseling for your teenager, please give me a call at (707) 520-4357 so we can talk about possible solutions

Do you take insurance?

My practice is insurance friendly.

I can often use your insurance to offset the cost of therapy. Some of this depends on your particular benefits, yearly deductibles and the issues that you are seeking therapy for. If you give me your information I am happy to check your benefits for you. Or, I can help you to ask the right questions when you call your insurance carrier.

Due to the cost and investment of therapy, it makes sense to find out if your medical benefits will cover mental health counseling. Give me a call at (707) 520-4357 if you would like to discuss these issues.

How long will my teenager need counseling?

This is a common and understandable question. There is no certain way to determine how long counseling will last. I like to use the first session to get to know you and your teenager, as well as learn more details about your particular needs and how I can serve you. After a few additional sessions, we can sit down and talk about the length of counseling and what type of commitment may be necessary.

What will you tell me about my teenager’s progress?

In order for your teenager to be able to trust me, he must know that I will keep what he shares in confidence. However, I can share general information about the issues that we are working on and whether or not your teenager is making progress. There are some exceptions to confidentiality, which mostly involve concerns for the safety of your teenager.

It is important for me to have regular contact with you and possibly involve you in the therapy process. Please give me a call at (707) 520-4357 if you have any further questions.
